UH GAP, in conjunction with the University of Houston Graphic Design Program, invites you to attend the 2023 Main Event, part of the Minor Design Speaker Series. Special guest Elaine Ramos will be speaking and we will also be awarding the 2023 UH Graphic Design Student Scholarships. Before Elaine's keynote lecture, we will be having a special retirement presentation for Fiona McGettigan, one of our professors who helped shape a lot of the UHGD Alumni into the designers we are today.
Elaine Ramos runs a design studio based in São Paulo and started Ubu, a publishing house, in 2017. She was an art director for eleven years at Cosac Naify, where she designed hundreds of books. At that publishing house, she also coordinated the releases from the design section, which includes translations of fundamental textbooks such as Meggs’ Design History and researches on Brazilian design.
Between 2008 and 2011 she dedicated herself to researching for a big book, the Brazilian Graphic Design Timeline, surveying more than 1600 images that compose a panorama of two centuries of the local production.
